Idaho State Police filed DUI and a number of other charges against a driver who led the law enforcement on a chase around the I-15. The chase culminated in a foot pursuit after the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.
According to the details shared by the authorities, it was reported that a driver was illegally driving a 2016 Peterbilt semi-tractor. The driver was identified as Joseph J. Castillo, 25 of Crowley, Louisiana. Castillo was reported to be traveling northbound on the I-15 at the time.
Following up on these reports, the authorities tried to stop Castillo close to the Inkom Port of Entry in the northbound lanes. However, Castillo refused to stop and fled the police. He was traveling at around 80 mph at the time and posed a significant risk to other vehicles on the road as well.
After fleeing the police stop, Castillo drove into the westbound lanes on the I-86, entering into the Power County. Spike strips had been deployed by the law enforcement on the route to force him to stop. Once the vehicle tires came in contact with the spike strips, the tires deflated.
Castillo then abandoned the vehicle and fled into a field on foot. This led the authorities to launch a foot pursuit which ended briefly with Castillo’s arrest.
A number of law enforcement agencies participated in apprehending the suspect. These included Power County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police, American Falls Police Department, Pocatello Police Department, and the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office.
Following his arrest, Castillo faces a number of charges brought against him. These include DUI, possession of a firearm while under the influence, resisting and obstructing the law enforcement, open container in the vehicle, operating a vehicle without the consent of the owner and felony eluding stop by the police.
