A Nampa man caused an 8-vehicle crash on the Interstate 84, only a day after being convicted of DUI and released on bond. Christian N. Salgado had been charged with excessive DUI and posted a bond of $500.
Salgado had been previously arrested for DUI back in October last year. At the time of his previous arrest, Salgado had a blood alcohol content of 0.20%. The arrest took place in Caldwell, Canyon County. On January 22, Salgado pleaded guilty to the charge of excessive DUI and was released on bond.
Only a day later, he caused an 8-vehicle crash on the I-84. According to the details from the authorities, Salgado had been out on bond for barely 24 hours when he left the eastbound lane of the I-84 and drove straight into the westbound lane. This led to a chain-reaction crash involving 8 vehicles. Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash.
Following the crash, Salgado was arrested by the police. He was tested for alcohol and his blood alcohol concentration was found to be 0.271%, more than thrice the legal limit of 0.08%. At the time of the arrest, the police also found more than 30 cans of alcohol in his car. This time, Salgado’s bond has been set at $500,000.
Excessive DUI is a serious offense in Idaho and the penalties grow harsher with greater BAC. For a first excessive DUI offense in Idaho, the penalties include up to $2,000 in fines and a jail time of 10 days to a year. For a second offense, the penalties include a fine of up to $5,000 in fines and a jail time of 30 days to 5 years. The court may also mandate alcohol education, counseling and rehabilitation in addition to the penalties.
