Man Charged With Vehicular Manslaughter Gets 15 Years

|

An Idaho man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for causing a fatal DUI crash. The court decision came this Thursday as a result of a plea agreement between the prosecution and the defendant.

The crash took place in May, 2019 resulting in the death of one person and serious injuries to another. Robert D. Murray, 66, of Caldwell was driving on the Market Road when the crash happened. Murray was driving a pickup at the time and was northbound. His vehicle crossed the center line and then crashed in a head-on collision with an SUV.

Animas Sobrevilla, 56, of Walla Walla was driving the SUV at the time and had another passenger in his vehicle. Sobrevilla sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash and died at the scene. The passenger was seriously injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital via air ambulance.

Following the crash, Murray was apprehended and tested for alcohol. As per the results of his blood tests, his blood alcohol content was double that of the 0.08%, a concentration defined by Idaho laws as the legal limit. The authorities brought two primary charges against Murray after the crash. These included vehicular manslaughter and aggravated DUI. Murray was also held on a $5 million bond which a court later reduced to $500,000.

Murray decided to enter a plea agreement with the prosecution. As per this arrangement, he has pleaded guilty to the charge of vehicular manslaughter while the state has dropped the aggravated DUI charge.

For vehicular manslaughter, Murray has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. He is also required to pay a $5,000 fine. In addition, Murray faces a license suspension of five years, a period which will commence once he is released from the prison.
