The Meridian Police arrested a woman on Sunday after she repeatedly rammed another vehicle while driving under the influence.
The accident took place near Fairland Avenue and Eagle Room on Sunday afternoon. Amanda Howard, 31, was driving her car when she repeatedly rammed it into the car of a family that lives in her neighborhood. The victims in the other car contacted the police which was able to apprehend Howard. The authorities found that Howard had rammed her vehicle into the other car a total of four times. Investigations also revealed that she was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The victims in the vehicle being hit appeared as prosecutors at Howard’s arraignment. These included a man and his pregnant wife. During the arraignment, they testified that they felt threatened when Howard repeatedly hit their vehicle.
Although the victims lived in the same neighborhood as Howard, police investigations revealed that Howard was very likely not acquainted with them. Howard has previous instances of drunk driving as well. She was charged twice for DUI in the last few years, once in 2015 and later in 2017. This makes the present incident her third DUI offense.
Howard is currently held at the Ada County Jail over felony DUI and aggravated battery charges. She is due to appear at a court hearing on Feb 3 and her bond has been set at $100,000.
The charges brought against her carry stiff penalties in Idaho law. For felony DUI, Howard faces a maximum of up to 5 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum of 1 month. The charge also carries a fine of up to $5,000. The penalties for aggravated battery include a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
